 12.22.05 Inmarsat-A Relocation to alternate Satellite from Inmarsat The Inmarsat-A service will be moved from the current Atlantic Ocean Region West (AORW) satellite located at 54 degrees West, to the Pacific East (PACE)* satellite located at 98 degrees West on January 8th 2006 at 14:00 UT. Users of the Inmarsat-A service in the AORW will therefore need to re-point their antennas in order to continue accessing the service. The Inmarsat-A service has already transitioned in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) from 64 degrees East to 109 degrees East. This change took place on 19 February, 2005 at 20:00 UT, and was required as the new I-4 Flight 1 satellite was positioned at the location of the I-3 satellite over IOR. The planned change, which ONLY affects Inmarsat-A services in the AORW, is a result of Inmarsat needing to position the new I-4 Flight 2 satellite at the location of the current I-3 satellite over AORW. End User impact: Inmarsat-A users will need to ensure that their MES (Mobile Earth Station) re-points to the correct satellite. Some Inmarsat-A MESs may find the satellite automatically. For the non-automatic cases it will be necessary for the operators to initiate a manual re-pointing as per the instructions in their MES operator's manual.
