2.15.11 Mackay-Singapore Opens February 1, 2011 Mackay’s First Foray into Asia Ships and shipping companies operate globally and Mackay Marine is following suit. We are complementing our offices in North America, Latin America, and Europe by opening in Asia. Mackay is strategically expanding into targeted regions to provide enhanced worldwide maritime service, despite the volatility of the global economy. Mackay-Singapore will initially be a one-man “representative office” (R.O.) for the primary purpose of serving and growing our client base in Asia, while further researching the local Singaporean market. Scott Douglas Thiemens, Jr. is spearheading our efforts in Singapore, bringing eight years of maritime sales and service experience. Mackay has employed a similar expansion concept in Europe since 2005; now sporting two robust marine service offices and numerous clients, under the leadership of Nick Pope. Singapore was chosen over prospective locations in China, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. The maritime industry dominates Singapore’s economy and Singapore serves as the Asian regional headquarters for many international shipping companies and manufacturers. Singapore’s infrastructure is very modern and their laws are business-friendly. Mackay Marine depots currently perform over 2,000 service jobs annually for ship-owners and clients based in Asia. Roughly 20 of these firms are located in Singapore, yet there are dozens of potential clients in that country alone. Our second most fruitful Asian market is Japan, which is home to several major OEMs (i.e., JRC, Furuno, Yokogawa, and Tokyo Keiki); as well as some of the world’s largest fleets, such as NYK, K-Line, Mitsui, and Sanko. Hong Kong, Chinese, and South Korean vessels are regularly serviced by one or more of Mackay Marine’s 17 depots or agents; providing ship repair and maintenance, in addition to new-build and replacement marine electronics. We look forward to increasing our presence in this dynamic venue. Asia is a vibrant, exciting market and Mackay is proud to be well-received and welcome. |
