Jr. Accounting Specialist – Cape Town

Mackay is currently seeking an onsite, Jr. Accounting Specialist with the skills, experience, and qualifications outlined below for our location in Cape Town, S. Africa.
Jr. Accounting Specialist Job Summary:
The Jr. Accounting Specialist works under the direction of his/her supervisor and is responsible for data entry, invoicing, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general administrative support. In addition to computing, classifying, and recording financial transactions to ensure the records of the organization are accurate and complete.
Essential Functions:
- Complies with prevailing regulations as well as Mackay’s company policies and procedures.
- Responds to questions from Corporate Accounting, Human Resources, Payroll, IT, IS, and its executives.
- Responsible for or assists with invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Responsible for vendor statement, general ledger, and bank statement reconciliations.
- Applicable tax filings.
- Checks figures, postings, and documents for accuracy and proper coding.
- Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data.
- Debits, credits, and totals accounts using excel spreadsheets and accounting software.
- Receives, records and deposits cash, checks and vouchers.
- Filing of customer/vendor documents.
- Maintains compliance with governmental regulations and prevailing laws.
- Compiles statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
- Reconciles and reports discrepancies found in records.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Jr. Accounting Specialist Qualifications:
- High proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred, attainment of Senior Certificate at minimum.
- 3+ Years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Prior tax filing experience.
- Solid understanding of debits and credits.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple functions at a time in a fast-paced environment.
- Thoroughness, attention to detail; good organizational skills.
- Prior financial reporting experiences a plus.
