IMCA’s Europe & Africa Regional Meeting Highlights

Kudos to Mackay South Africa’s MSE, Jannie Scholtz, for his contribution to IMCA’s Europe & Africa Regional meeting (Sept. 18, 2025) (agenda), held at the BSM Maritime Training Centre in Ghana. See Agenda.

As an IMCA DP Trials & Assurance Practitioner, Scholtz shared his extensive in-field experience servicing DP (Dynamic Positioning) Systems, primarily installed on vessels attending offshore O&G Rigs and Platforms.  Focusing on critical techniques & protocol, his presentation was entitled “Assuring Safe DP Operations with Equipment Aged Over 10 Years”, promoting safe and incident-free DP operations.

Speakers & attendees at the event included regional diving teams, naval representatives, oil & gas firms, energy & environmental government ministry officials, service providers, marine training academy professors & students, and more.

In addition to diver safety, several sessions highlighted the increased opportunities for women working in the offshore sector, enabling the region to move towards greater gender equality.

Joining Scholtz, was Waldo Fourie, Managing Director of Mackay South Africa, and a long-time participant in IMCA (Intl. Marine Contractors Assoc.).  IMCA’s goal is to encourage industry collaboration to foster professional and safe offshore operations worldwide.

Scholtz & Fourie took the time to meet with soon-to-graduate Marine Academy students at the IMCA event and also joined a group visit to a local private school arranged by IMCA.  Both shared the wide range of Offshore career opportunities, combined with practical expectations & professional pathways. Exciting to engage with the next generation of mariners.

Thanks to IMCA for providing a forum & to the team of speakers to promote collective marine safety goals benefiting all industry sectors.
